I just found my state's Y2K page. The preparations they recommend are similar to preparing for a hurricane.
lay2k.com

Also, I have a very practical question. How do I persuade my wife that we ought to make lifestyle changes and preparations for Y2K?
She thinks I'm overreacting. In a casual conversation at a bar today, everyone there , except me, expressed the opinion that it is all hype to get people to buy products that they won't need. I like to say "I told you so", but not when we are sitting in a house with no food, heat or water. Or, if we do make preparations and our families and friends don't, I don't cherish the thought of turning people
( especially family ) away, because we don't have enough food or water for everyone.

I guess I'll just have to go buy stuff and tell her after. It's easier to get forgiveness than agreement some times.
