Hi Frank:
Same spectrum as LMDS, but perhaps less of it, with higher-order QAM modulation, and highly directional links. There was an article on this topic in Telephony Magazine recently. It pointed out that mesh-based networks require less BW, such as the B block of the LMDS auction, whereas PMP requires the A block. However, it seems to me that PMP will be able to add easily new users, while mesh-based networks require network reconfigurations to add new users. Specifically, suppose you have already set up a ring network, and want to add a customer between two vertices of a wireless segment, you would have to perform 3 visits (one to the new customer, and one to the neighbors on each side to realign transmitters and receivers), instead of one. So, for well-defined applications, mesh-based networks might be attractive, but for a large market, PMP probably has an edge.
Best regards,
