*FCC and Government licence mess* The best thing that can come out of the FCC shambles on the Pioneer Licence is that they do things on a more market oriented basis. Governments have had thousands of years to become sensible though and have completely failed, so I don't expect it any time soon. The FCC won't get it right either, if only because they are controlled by politicians who think people who are sun resistant, have female gonads or run companies less than a certain size should have special favours granted by the state.

Well, it would be good if Q! got some financial compensation or some useful spectrum, but like Valueman, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Reading that FCC stuff was very hard going and just a monstrous legal and bureaucratic jumble which achieved fees for those involved in arguing it and nothing else. I think that was why there was little response. It is too small to have a large impact on what is now a $30bn company.

When, not if, Globalstar 'takes off', Q! will make 8% of the profits, plus the handset sales and those will be very large when Constellation2 is up there and handsets can be made small with great battery life [especially using MeOH fuel cell batteries]. Plus royalties from Telital and Ericy who will use the Qualcomm ASIC which is a special one for Globalstar.

Qualcomm has a monopoly on the cdmaOne Globalstar handsets. I'm sure they will maintain a monopoly on cdma2000 Globalstar handsets and as GSM dies off, replaced by cdma2000 and maybe W-CDMA [VW40], then Telital and Ericy will be out of the business. Qualcomm might sell ALL the Globalstar handsets for Constellation2 unless they license Ericy for W-CDMA. Maybe they won't. Probably they will as it would be better to make maximum sales, and as long as the royalty is high enough, it will be no skin off Qualcomm's nose.

Mqurice

PS: Ibex, how about something useful instead of just defying Ramsey's effort. You could go start your own thread. Call it The New Qualcomm as seen by Ibex. Then, if we like it, we could go there. There could be a whole row of The New Qualcomm - by Mqurice down the Communications Stock Talk sector and people could choose the one they want. It seems silly to just mess up the thread for the sake of being stroppy and defying what many see [absurdly] as an attempt to muzzle 'free speech'.

Yes, those who don't like the RSPD, who like free speech, start your own thread right next to this one and let free enterprise and competition flourish. May the best man win. Or woman for those who would like a gender specific Q! thread for women only. We could have a Gay Thread too for those who are excited about a Gay Parade in San Diego. Personally, I'm feeling pretty gay about it all since Q! hit a high. If the Gay thread is good, I'll join in for some fun and laughter.

So, quit whining about Ramsey.
