Robert: I kind'a sort'a see both of them as being buy-out plays longer term. One could see them as being niche players who are basically re-using LEC copper end-loops to accomplish their business plan of providing xDSL technology to businesses, their employees at their home(s), and perhaps even targeting residential.

Bottom line is their major competitor is the very set of companies they have to buy the end loop from. And since, unlike the CLEC(Competitive Local Exchange Carrier) community who also has(typically) a fair substantial long distance business from which to draw capital, the COVD's are pretty much a "one trick pony". This is not to say they can't go far, or that they're incapable of adjusting their business play going forward. It's just that as the LEC/CLEC community begins their own not inconsequential roll-out of xDSL...well, if'n I was COVD management I'd be angling for a buy-out. This is all imho, of course....

Regards!

John~
