re. taxes, a short seller in the U.S. cannot avoid paying taxes due to a stock becoming worthless. Once it is worthless (and I'm not sure who decides this) then you must pay taxes. I've never had this happen to me, though.

re. AMEX, my guess is that they will not take a high-profile publicity position on this stock. It is after all an embarrassment to them that they listed it and then later asked whether they erred. So I don't expect any newsreleases from them, ever, on UAI. They do put out a daily list, which shows halts, delistings, and resumptions in trading. Newswires like Reuters watch these daily lists and sometimes put out a wire on it. That is most likely the only news that will come out of any source, other than the company.
