The work I quoted from was done by Anderson Consulting for General Motors. There was another one done by EDS which had similar findings.

I certainly would not trust a business to thin clients that are totally dependent on continuous net and server access!

You're increasingly in the minority - fat clients are less reliable. Your remarks remind me of the big IT shops in 1990 - "I'll never trust my business to those toy computers". In the end economic justification and higher availability will drive thin client adoption in certain segments where they are clearly superior. At the moment that is maybe 15% of current usage but that may change as network oriented computing replaces older client server models.
