if I may jump in here quickly: If you were using eBay for your own purchases (maybe you do :-)), you would not be surprised to see such a big jump in new users. I think eBay is a fantastic idea, and it's the biggest auction place. Let me briefly relate this:

I was/still am looking for some photo gear for my Olympus SLR camera. I have registered 3 searches that alert me when new stuff is being offered. I get a mail for all three searches almost every day, with multiple offerings in each of my searches.

I have registered about the same searches also on Yahoo Auctions. I get one mail a week, if I'm lucky. In short, the difference in offered items and volume between EBAY and YHOO is enormous. I like Yahoo a lot, but when it comes to auctions, eBay simply is the place to sell and buy.

So much for that 46% jump in users :-)
