William -- it is the valuations that are so extreme -- that is what makes them more risky than we normally allow for in these discussions. These are stocks that can 'correct' 80% off their highs, and still not be under-valued. A stock with a low-beta typically has pretty predictable performance -- nothing spectacular but nothing with a lot of risk. Utilities come to mind before deregulation as an example. AMZN is not a predictable stock over the next few years -- and as such it carries a high degree of risk. Its price should reflect the time factor -- waiting for profits -- and the risk factor -- the possibility there will be no profits. This makes this stock a very speculative investment vehicle. It is not 'extreme' of me to mention this -- and it should be said as a caution to those who think these stocks trade on their 'fundamentals'. This stock can go down much further from here -- I will not repeat the cautions I posted earlier about the market as a wholoe -- except to say, this is a poor bet right now.
