Stephen, Do you have the sense that Bejing's attempt to emphasize Marxist ideology and Atheism is possibly the last gasp of a government on the verge of losing its legitimacy?? It has to be obvious to the Chinese people that such reactionary marxist propaganda is a sign of weakness or fear. Can China have a reasonably non-violent change of government, avoiding the problems Russia suffered?? Something tells me that things are a bit more on the brink than the West is perceiving, and this Falun Gong crackdown was a major step at retaining what seems to be a far more tenuous grip on power in the country. Maybe I'm wrong... but when leaderships are in danger of falling out of power, sometimes they undertake VERY risky undertakings in order to distract their people from domestic problems. The Argentinians did it with the Falklands... Might Bejing finally decide to make a try for Taiwan?? Regards, Ron
