Intel turns up the pressure...

Intel re-captures sub $1000 PC market.

The Register today reports some gloomy news for AMD only a week before it
launches its new Athlon Processor. PC Data's latest figures show Intel inching
ahead of AMD for the first time in the sub $1000 PC market in nearly 11 months.
June saw Intel take 45.4 % of the sub $1000 market compared to AMD's 43.2 %
share.

AMD held the retail PC market from January of this year with its K6-2 processor,
which still features in 43 % of PCs sold. What we have seen though is the increase
of sales of the Celeron processor which has allowed OEM's to produce low cost
Intel powered PCs which can be sold alongside faster and more expensive
Pentium II & III machines.
