I guess the findings depend on who is paying for the study. IT managers love the centralized server version of computing because the control of the computing environment comes into their realm. It gives them power over the user. Thin clients are easier to sell to IT departments because they promise bigger IT budgets and administrative staffs. This centralized control is appropriate in companies that require strict "floor discipline" such as hospitals and factory floors but it denies the general user flexibility and independence. If you are into accruing power unto yourself "thin clients" are certainly one of the ways to go. I prefer to control my own computing environment and do not wish to be dependent on third party suppliers anymore than is absolutely necessary. Been there and done that already. As for the cost improvements, I suggest that these are currently largely fictitious. In order to assure continuous uninterrupted internet service, I still have to rely on redundant systems and redundant ISP's. I do not think that I am in the minority on this one. Redundancy is expensive! The "thin client" model is just another variation of X-terminals which never occupied more than a niche in the past. It never really caught on even in intranets. The Andersen report and the EDS report should not be taken at face value, uncritically as you seem to be promoting. but then you have been promoting CPQ uncritically for several years as well.
