According to the employment cost index (ECI), hourly compensation costs increased 3 percent over the twelve months ended in March, down from 3-1/2 percent over the preceding twelve-month period... ...A second measure of hourly compensation--the Bureau of Labor Statistics' measure of compensation per hour in the nonfarm business sector, which is derived from compensation information from the national accounts--has been rising more rapidly than the ECI in the past few years and has also decelerated less so far this year.
