I think the impact is more psychological. I would think twice before investing in a company in which there was such a large amount of insider selling among top management. Sure, 4 million shares is less than 1% of AOL's total outstanding shares. But it's 4 million shares owned by top management who have very strong knowledge about forecasts for the company. Certainly, if there was strong conviction among AOL management that the value of those 4 million shares was going to double, or even increase by 50% over the next 12 months one might think they might not have sold.
