chaz, EMC's solution and NTAP's solution are very different and offer very different benefits to the customer. EMC provides large storage systems with reasonable performance, and high reliability at a cost marginally less than IBM. NTAP provides small to medium storage systems with excellent performance, very high reliability at a cost much lower than their competitors (SUN, Auspex, HWP,...)

NTAP is bought by ISPs and F1000 companies to store and serve data in high throughput situations. Usually, rapidly growing storage requirements is an important aspect of the customers' environment. Usually the desire to make a profit in serving this data is also an aspect, so increasing sys admin costs are to be avoided.
