E-Trade will drop NITE for Archipelago (ECN) Lets look at the facts: Goldman and E-Trade bought a 50% stake They did this mainly to: save money (ECN's cheaper} better customer service, faster executions. Here are the exact words from the press release "Ultimately, Archipelago is another way to improve the quality of service," said Christos Costakos, ETrade chief executive officer and chairman-elect. "Archipelago's trading system will provide ETrade with yet another opportunity to serve our customers who derive value from the speed, efficiency and anonymity associated with ECN-based trading. cnnfn.com Fact: E-trade and Ameritrade account for 41% of NITE's business. I know this is old news, but it is finally starting to sink in.
