One of my better decisions this year was to not buy SFAM. I tried to convince myself to do it since I really wanted a pure CMP play. Unfortunately I got nervous when it appeared that their Marketing staff must be from Mars. My summation is that the strategy must be: we don't know which type of system is best for which application, so we'll offer all versions (is a belt sander version to follow?) and see what the customers buy. If that's the best they can focus and understand their system/market, then their market share should be easy pickin's for the likes of Ebara and AMAT.

I think I'll continue to wait on the sidelines until I see more positive signs of life (like Novellus really closing in.)

FWIW I went by the SFAM booth numerous times during Semicon West show and it seemed devoid of customers. Worse yet, I spent about 10-15 minutes reading their panels and not a single person approached me to see if I might be interested in their product.

At Semicon Europa the SFAM booth was a ghost town with very little in the way of information being displayed (literally a lot of white wall space with nothing eye-catching. That may have been partly due to the relative newness of the fusion.
