I asked this question on another thread but no luck. Question on MP3 format: Does anyone know if the quality of MP3? I read the specs of the Diamond Rio PMP300 Portable MP3 Player and it claims that you can play 60 minutes of music with 32 megs of Ram. That is 90% less than the conventional CD-ROM audio format. As to your comment that MP3.com has no selection, I think the article below explains the reasoning. usnews.com Even if one of the company's bands becomes a hit, the MP3 format allows for unlimited copying, which could dilute MP3.com's sales. That's why the major labels are holding back from the Internet until a digital standard that prevents illegal piracy is created. An industry-led consortium is expected to decide on that technology by August so that the major labels can sell digital music before Christmas.
