Actually, Blue, the exchange about D.C. began with a post by Christine, to which I responded. If I recall correctly, Christine made a remark about how dangerous it is/must be (for white people) to go to downtown D.C. at night, where they risk getting mugged, etc. My comment (here again, if I recall correctly) was that the "white people" don't go into the "dangerous" neighborhoods, and that the neighborhoods where such cultural amenities as fancy restaurants and the Kennedy Center, etc., are located are quite safe. Which, as anyone knows who actually lives in the area, is quite true.
Most of the much-talked about "crime" in D.C. occurs in poor neighborhoods, and illustrates the sad truth that the poor, not the well-to-do, are its most frequent victims.
