Your experience is not consistent with mine, thats all I can tell you. When I commuted to Cisco from San Mateo area it took an hour. Last friday I went from Palo Alto to Burlingame... one hour. As you know 101 is torn up all over the place around the airport and San Mateo in general and that has everything tied up in knots. Last Saturday we drove to the SF Moma which is in Soma and that took an hour and 15 mins from San Mateo on a Saturday morning.

I know people that have accepted jobs in Marin county and chose to rent an apt there since the drive is not a commutable distance - apts there are $2K.mo so I'm sure they wouldn't be doing that to shave off say, 20 mins. I live here - you live there, I don't try to tell you what your commute times should be. How about just leaving it at that.
