Tony,

HWP admitted last year that the Merced was never going to be
the "RISC-Killer" it was meant to be. They were the ones that
developed the chip to begin with. When they made this announcement,
it took quite a bit of steam out of the 64-bit drive INTC had
been promoting for its enterprise-class solution set.

HWP then announced the McKinley initiative that would "certainly"
be a challenge to the 64-bit Ultras. One problem is that
McKinley is still a few years off (3-5). Another problem is that
no one is sure if HWP really "means it" this time.
