Talk City Climbs in Media Metrix June Rankings; Continues to Outpace Community Competitors in Minutes/Usage Day Rankings
CAMPBELL, Calif., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Internet community provider Talk City, Inc. (Nasdaq: TCTY - news), announced today that it has moved up in Media Metrix's June rankings of top consolidated web sites, as determined by reach. This is the fourth consecutive month that Talk City has risen in this key measurement.
Talk City continues to outpace community competitors Geocities, theglobe, Tripod, and Xoom in the minutes/usage day and minutes/month rankings -- a few of the key indicators for what many in the industry judge as a site's customer retention value, or ''stickiness.'' Specifically, users of www.talkcity.com averaged 10.5 minutes/usage day at home, compared to 6.7 minutes for the globe, 4.8 minutes for Geocities, and 4.2 minutes for xoom. Talk Citizens racked up an average of 17 minutes per month at home, according to Media Metrix, compared with 10.8 for theglobe.com, 12.6 for Geocities, and 8.3 for Xoom. This is the eighth month in a row that Talk City has surpassed theglobe and Geocities in these usage metrics.
Talk City attributes its ongoing growth to, among other factors, the popularity of Talk City's special Star Wars chat series (produced in conjunction with Lucasfilm -- see press release -- ''Talk City Chosen by Lucasfilm as Official Chat Provider For Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace'' 05/05/1999) as well as the success of its television advertising campaign on NBC TV, which ran through June and promoted the nbc.talkcity.com area on NBC.com.
