TELLABS SUPPLIES ENTEL WITH ACCESS TECHNOLOGY
FOR ITS TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK IN CHILE

MartisDXXTM System Selected to Manage Business Services Network

Lisle, Ill. – Tellabs announced today that Empresa Nacional de
Telecomunicaciones S.A. (Entel), one of the largest telecommunications
providers in Latin America, is using Tellabs' MartisDXXTM managed
access and transport system to provide long-distance and data
communications services throughout Chile. Entel's nationwide network
provides high-capacity data communications services for banking and
other corporate clients.

Entel will be the first Latin American telecommunications provider to
use the MartisDXX system's Flexible Access Bandwidth (FAB) feature,
which enables service providers to offer their corporate customers
flexible access bandwidth with optimized cost control. Using the FAB
feature, Entel will provide customers with access speeds ranging from 64
kilobits per second to 2 megabits per second without equipment changes.

"Entel is committed to providing our customers with the most advanced
and reliable technologies, and that is why we have chosen to work with
Tellabs,” said Alejandro Riquelme, manager of business services at
Entel. “The MartisDXX system's FAB feature and network management system
protects our investment by allowing us to adapt access speeds without
changing equipment or building additional infrastructure.”

The contract was awarded to Tron, S.A., a Tellabs strategic partner
based in Chile that specializes in integrating technologies and
providing engineering support and technical assistance.

“The MartisDXX platform allows service providers to meet the growing
bandwidth and service demands of corporate clients in a competitive
telecommunications market,” said Marcelo Wald, regional director of
Tellabs' operations in the Southern Cone. “We are very pleased that
Entel has chosen the MartisDXX system to expand its high-speed service
offering.”

The MartisDXX system currently is deployed in more than 160 networks in
60 countries worldwide, providing intelligent transport for mobile
services and multiservice platforms for a broad range of business
services, including LAN interconnection, digital leased line, frame
relay and PBX interconnection.

Entel has more than 35 years of experience in the telecommunications
industry. Throughout Latin America, Entel provides a variety of
telecommunications services that include local and long distance
telephony, cellular and Internet services and multimedia capabilities.
Americatel Corporation is Entel's North American branch based in Miami.
Currently, Americatel has expanded its operations as a carrier to 50
major markets in the United States.

Tellabs designs, manufactures, markets and services data, voice and
video transport and network access systems. The company's products are
used worldwide by the providers of communications services. Tellabs
stock is listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market (TLAB).
