I agree it's good to be conservative, and understand why they do that. However, I think John Dowd is correct that they are walking a fine line this time between being conservative and crying wolf. If their forecast turns out to be ridiculously pessimistic more analysts will ignore them in the future, which will add volatility (and hence uncertainty) in the stock, defeating the purpose of being conservative in the first place.

The Ballmer quote from the analyst's meeting is "a 25% growth projection is crazy". Is that credible? In my estimation, it will look anything but crazy next June.

Time will tell.
