Substitute Yourdon, North,Yardeni, Fisher, Lane, etc., for Lippmann.
Substitute electricity going out, or bank runs or declaration of martial law ,etc, for Pearl Harbour.
Substitute a few names posting here that say 'all will be well if you just don't say anything really doomey or that might cause a panic'
for the same ones Lippmann spoke of...
in his day, the pollys said "Don't be ridiculous, the Japs will never attack us....the Germans will stop with the Rhineland/Austria/Sudatenland....Jews aren't having any problem..
and such statements as 'quit your war-mongering, you're upsetting us...be happy, enjoy life, all is well, you're crazy, the japs aren't that strong.. the Nazis are no threat...you have no proof ......"
