Thanks for the information. I've seen two kinds of daytraders on the net: those that trade large, heavily traded stocks (Intel, Microsoft, AOL, Cisco, Lucent, Rambus, Qlogic, etc.) and those that trade small, heavily traded stocks that tend to be chatted up a lot on SI, Raging Bull, and other forums or chat rooms. I'm neither, since I generally try to time for 1-6 months on most stocks. If you're taking off a year, you'll probably need the spend some time studying trading and markets still since many of the other traders seem to be studying all the time.
