So, it's the CFO who has the brilliant idea to report earnings in an unorthodox and closed mouth way. I would say the man is an idiot. OK, so he's the CFO of a huge multi-billion dollar market cap company, kudos to him. So he's in a position to determine how the SHAREHOLDER'S earnings are reported. So this man decides it's cute to shut out the street, and not play their game. Why would he do this? Did an analyst once hurt his feelings? I stick to my original assessment in that this titanic ego is getting in the way of something much bigger than himself. CFO's can come and go and it wouldn't matter. Earnings get reported wrong, and it means billions.

This reminds me in some ways of Chris Crisman, CEO of Applied Magnetics. He also was one of those guys who doesn't play ball with the street. Check out a chart of APM some time if you get a chance. Admittedly, other factors play a role in APM's demise, but I've seen his arrogant attitude towards the street trip him up time after time.
