"A single version of Linux has outsold the upgraded version of Microsoft's Windows 98 operating system in Japan for the past three weeks, according to a market research company."

So how long before a non-programming computer user like myself will be able to buy a desktop with Linux and be able to install and run all the typical programs that I have been using for years: Spreadsheet, word processor, quickbooks / turbo tax (as a small business owner I tremble in fear at the thought of leaving behind these present tools), basic graphic design program (business cards, brochures & signs - even our logo on hats & shirts), stock trading programs (MyTrack & AIQ), multimedia net surfing...??
I would not consider buying a linux based system until I see some of the big popular software co's (Intuit, etc.) either already loaded or the ability to install them with only a few keystrokes.
I know that the above will happen, I just want to know how much more time I have to spend in Billy's private version of hell called Windows 98.
Thank you for any guidance this thread can provide,
Jerry
PS I was watching the landing of the space shuttle (Cnn live video with Billy's media player) and when I hit the respond button the media player froze. This kind of crapola happens all the time, 128 RAM with one netscape open besides the player. NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND HAS SOMEONE MADE SO MUCH $$$ WITH SUCH A POOR PRODUCT!! |
