John, thanks for the informative input...I have not been able to figure out the counter claims that have been made about how bad a screw up this was, and I was not trying to exonerate JFKJr. by observing that the stats are worse for private planes. I have wondered about the lack of instrument- rating flying into a fog towards evening (Camille Paglia says she was taking family around New York that day,and that the fog was thick and extensive), or the failure to establish radio communication. I would only say that it is a bit too steep a price for misjudgment.....
