[World DRAM Price] DRAM Spot Price Holds Upward Trend
July 28, 1999 (TOKYO) -- The upward trend in price that started on July 1 is holding in the daily 64Mb DRAM (PC100, 8M x 8) spot market.

In the United States, the price increased to as high as US$6.00. The rolling average for large users for 30 days continues to show a downward trend, but price fluctuations on a daily basis are becoming minor.

DRAM manufacturers in Taiwan have started negotiations for raising prices. This is not because of a product shortage, but mainly because of the deteriorating profitability seen by DRAM manufacturers.

The rolling average of 64Mb DRAMs (PC100, 8M x 8) for large users for the 30 days between June 10 and July 9, 1999 was US$6.45 in North America, US$6.50 in Europe and US$5.65 in Asia.

ICIS-LOR, a research firm with its business bases in London, Houston and Singapore, conducted the worldwide DRAM price survey. When compared with the rolling average last week (30 days up to July 2), the price decreased 1.15 percent in North America, remained unchanged in Europe and decreased 2.89 percent in Asia.

The spot price of memory modules of 64Mb DIMM (PC100) decreased 4.07 percent from last week to US$34.82 in North America. Likewise, it decreased 3.86 percent to US$37.95 in Europe, and it decreased 3.11 percent to US$36.84 in Asia.
