David, Scrapps, Eric, and David, thank you for the tips. Eric, E*Trade will let you make a sell selection if you have two lots with exactly the same number of shares, say two lots each with 100 sh. and you input a sell order of 100 sh, then you will be promted for which lot. Any other combination, you wouldn't be prompted for lots selection. They said they are working on the computer program to make this possible. Wash sale. Taking a loss on COMS and immediately buying USRX, is that a wash sale? My book "Your Income Tax 1994" by J.K. Lasser defines wash sale using the term Substantially Identical. Is 1.75 sh of COMS substantially identical to 1 sh USRX? The merger has been announced but is not realized. Will you get into trouble with the IRS? Wayne
