Bear Stearns lowered their rating of Quantum this morning by issuing new recommendations on the two tracking stocks as “Attractive” on DSS and “Neutral” on HDD. The old QNTM had been rated a “Buy”. Reason for the downgrade was “DSS reported a shortfall in its most recent quarter”. On HDD the report states, “ Competing with IBM, Seagate and Fujitsu long-term will be difficult because these companies have more extensive financial and technology resources”. The report also stated that “pricing won't get better for at least 2 quarters”. [bolds mine] -RD
