Alex, "Who is John Galt" -- was that intentional humour or a genuine question? John Galt was a character, and a symbol, in the Ayn Rand book Atlas Shrugged. The phrase, "who is John Galt" is an expression used often in the book (which, BTW, I strongly recommend as an excellent read). Can't help you with the thread -- been there a couple of times, and it wasn't clear what the heck was going on. Haven't had the time to try to figure it out.
