Rajala, your comparison is flawed on numerous counts.

First the 1M subs for G* is at end of 15months service; the 15K actual for Irid at end of 1Q99 was after less than 5 months service.

More important, the 15K subs were acquired with only one phone design (MOTs), critical parts of which weren't available or working properly, lousy service provider/distribution channels, and at prices 2-3 higher than G*s for the minutes and handsets. In retrospect, it's amazing Irid was able to get as many as 15K subs in such circumstances, demonstrating there are indeed people desperate for sat phone service.
