Pardon me, Folks, I don't know where this is going, or what the implications of the term baggage are in the context it was written here, but my allusion to Frezza's being an old wireless warrior derives from my knowledge of his front line support of many other wireless technologies over the years, which for various reasons never got off the ground from a penetration standpoint. The fact that he remained undaunted in his belief of the wireless paradigm was what I was referring to. "Loyal," in the context that I used the term, meant loyal to the wireless mode of communications, and nothing more.
Am I skeptical about CDMA? I think that if you read my post[s] on this matter going back in time, they would reveal that I haven't any problems with the underlying technological fundamentals of the 3G model, in fact I view some of its IP features, in particular, very favorably.
What I was questioning was the gap in the existing rollout timetable which I believe gives other purveyors an opportunity to fill with other wireless options.
Where 3G is concerned, I do believe that the implementation level considerations on the parts of wireless carriers, when added to some ASIC sourcing issues, and their need to do ramping up past various stages of releases [planned upgrades, over time] affords such an opportunity to other models, both wireless and landline, alike.
There's nothing religious at play here, and nothing that speaks to the kind of vesting of any pecuniary interest, or that which might otherwise be attributed to a legacy mentality. I have simply provided some practical observations, which are my opinions only -- and I could be wrong about them, granted -- as someone who is more than just a little familiar with the logistics involved in very large scale service rollouts.
I have posted a number of those implementation level issues on the Last Mile thread, and I am still waiting to receive some replies, either pro or con... I don't care which. Perhaps someone here would like to address them? One such post was:
