Oracle Announces Online Business-to-Business Marketplace
Oracle(R) Exchange to Deliver an e-Business Community Enabling Companies To Dramatically Reduce Purchasing Costs

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Oracle Corp., (Nasdaq: ORCL) the number one choice for e-business, today unveiled plans for Oracle(R) Exchange, the world's first open business-to-business online marketplace. Oracle Exchange will provide an e-business procurement community where any company can buy business goods and services using any purchasing technique. Unlike competitive offerings that can only link customers with those suppliers who use the same proprietary software, Oracle Exchange will be available to any company and does not require Oracle software. Oracle Exchange will offer both a broad, horizontal marketplace as well as vertically aligned industry marketplaces built together with Oracle partners.

In support of Oracle Exchange, Oracle also announced that purchasing-related content and services from more than 260 companies will be available to Oracle Exchange participants through the Oracle Supplier Network. With the members of the Oracle Supplier Network providing products and services to cover a broad range of needs, companies that join Oracle Exchange can immediately begin to leverage the Oracle Supplier Network to save money and reduce procure-to-pay lifecycle costs. (See accompanying release.)

Oracle Exchange to Support New Internet Business Models - Spot Buying, Buyer Auctions

With the broad adoption of the Internet as an effective platform for business, several new business models for Internet procurement are emerging. Unlike competitors' offerings, Oracle Exchange will support these new Internet procurement models such as spot buying and buyer auctions.

Spot buying allows companies to purchase quickly from a supplier with whom they have no formal relationship. A buyer auction is a reverse-auctioning process that allows business buyers to solicit and manage bids from multiple suppliers online.

Additionally, Oracle Exchange will support the traditional catalog buying model, enabling companies to buy from suppliers with whom they have existing relationships. With the vast range of products and services offered today, Oracle Exchange will allow corporate buyers to buy any of them using the purchasing model they choose.

A Totally Open Marketplace

The key to the success of any market is to have as many buyers and sellers as possible. The Oracle Exchange facilitates this by allowing any buyer or seller to participate/without needing to purchase or install any software whatsoever.

"Any company that is serious about e-business needs to have an electronic marketplace strategy," said Deb Stanton, Manager, Corporate Supply Group, Honeywell, Inc. "Oracle Exchange builds on Oracle's proven Internet Procurement solution, delivering what promises to be a very powerful e-business marketplace solution."

"Traditional business-to-business procurement has been too limited," said Ron Wohl, senior vice president, applications development. "The Internet, for the first time, allows the creation of a global business marketplace that leverages all modern trading approaches/catalog buying, long-term contracts, spot purchases, auctions/and applied them to all goods and services. Oracle Exchange, by providing the first such open marketplace, offers the greatest possible savings to participants."

Oracle Exchange is scheduled to be available by the end of 1999 at oracleexchange.com.

Oracle(R) Supplier Network Provides Purchasing-Related Content From Over 260 Companies for Oracle Exchange Participants
Leading e-Businesses Jump at Opportunity to Join Oracle Supplier Network and Participate in Oracle Exchange

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL), the number one choice for e-business, demonstrated the momentum behind its newly announced Oracle(R) Exchange today by announcing that content and related services from more than 260 companies will be available on Oracle Exchange, its online business-to-business marketplace, through Oracle Supplier Network. Oracle Supplier Network is a group of suppliers and content service providers that integrate with Oracle Strategic Procurement applications, which will populate Oracle Exchange and provide the ability for buyers to access suppliers products and services and buy them over the Internet. Together, Oracle Exchange and Oracle Supplier Network will enable companies to take greater advantage of the Internet's ability to reduce costs, streamline processes and capture new markets.

Oracle Supplier network includes companies such as Adecco Staffing Services, barnesandnoble.com, Boise Cascade Office Products Corp., BT Office Products, Collabria, Inc., Compaq Computer Corporation, Corporate Express, Dun & Bradstreet, Inc., GE Supply, Harbinger Corporation, Motion Industries, Inc., Office Depot, Requisite Technology Inc., RoweCom, TPN Register and Wesco Distribution offering everything from computer equipment to paper clips to temporary staffing. With the members of the Oracle Supplier Network providing products and services to cover a broad range of needs, companies that join Oracle Exchange can immediately begin to leverage the Supplier Network to save money and reduce procure-to-pay lifecycle costs.

"A key element of Oracle Exchange is the content made available through Oracle Supplier Network," said Ron Wohl, senior vice president, Applications Development. "Oracle Exchange will bring together a strong community of buyers and sellers, leveraging Internet technology to enable them to perform critical e-business purchasing functions effectively and efficiently. This is a remarkable opportunity for suppliers to make their products available to thousands of new customers and for buyers to browse a wealth of supplier content in a single marketplace environment."

Oracle Supplier Network provides benefits to both corporate buyers and suppliers. Buyers will receive the benefit of support across the range of content management approaches (buyer hosted, supplier hosted, etc.) for all Supplier Network partners. This reduces the time and money associated with setting up new supplier relationships or improving existing ones. Suppliers get the benefit of knowing their content is accessible by thousands of Oracle customers. This increases their revenue potential and reduces their cost of doing business with those customers.

Supplier Content is the Key

A key member of Oracle Supplier Network is TPN Register. "TPN Register is pleased to bring its 500 suppliers and over one million transactive product line items to the Oracle Supplier Network," said Ray Schiavone, president of TPN Register. "Along with our supplier base, the TPN Register sourcing environment provides direct access to content from 150,000 suppliers compiled and published by Thomas Register of American Manufacturers as well as other Thomas directories."

"As a content services partner with Oracle, Requisite is pleased to include our eLeader catalog in Oracle Supplier Network," says Barbara Mowry, CEO and President of Requisite Technology, Inc., another Oracle Supplier Network member. "This source of unified, high quality, commerce-ready eContent from industry leading suppliers -- including W.W. Grainger, Corporate Express, SciQuest, BT Office Products, Rowe.com and Staples -- currently consists of 246 suppliers and is rapidly expanding in both depth and breadth to become the premier content source for buyer managed catalogs."

"Corporate Express is pleased to be a part of Oracle Exchange and Supplier Network," said Robert King, President and CEO of Corporate Express. "It is a great opportunity to provide an additional channel to deliver fast, easy and flexible e-commerce solutions to our customers, and participate in an online marketplace with a technology leader like Oracle and other world class companies."
