I added up all of the Gold Mining companies with market cap of
>$100 Million (18 companies per stockscreener.com) and
came up with $27.0 Billion total.

I'm not sure what the market cap of the S&P 500 is, but it appears
as though the vast majority of the gold industry is worth far less
than 1/10 of MSFT.

Edit: I see that AR has done a similar search and gotten similar
results..
