Christopher ~ do us both a favor and give it a rest. I prefer not to speculate about factual matters. I know two basic facts on the issue you raise ~ 1) statistically, D.C., like California, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and Louisiana, has a higher rate of child poverty, child abuse, child neglect, inadequate prenatal care, and inadequate child medical care; and 2) D.C., like the states mentioned above, does have governmental programs to address these issues. I think the cause of #1 is far more complex than the adequacy of #2.
I also know that Washington, D.C., like Los Angeles and San Francisco, which are in California, also rated as a terrible place to raise children, is a world class cosmopolitan city, and Houston and New Orleans, situated, respectively, in Texas and Louisiana, also rated as terrible places to raise children, are pretty wonderful, too.
To be consistent, you must also think that Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and New Orleans are unworthy of being called world class and cosmopolitan. |
