ATI RAGE(TM) MOBILE GRAPHICS CHOSEN BY COMPAQ FOR NEW ARMADA
HIGH-PERFORMANCE COMMERCIAL NOTEBOOK PCS ATI RAGE MOBILITY(TM)-P
Selected for New High-End, Desktop Performance Armada M700 and Armada
E700 Series ATI RAGE(TM) LT Pro Graphics Selected for New Armada M300
Lightweight, Full Function Notebook PC

TORONTO, Jul 28, 1999 /CNW-PRN via COMTEX/ -- ATI Technologies Inc.
(TSE:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT) announced today that Compaq Computer Corporation
(NYSE:CPQ) has selected ATI's latest RAGE Mobility(TM)-P mobile
graphics accelerator for the new Compaq Armada M700 and Armada E700
series of high-performance notebook PCs. Compaq has also chosen the ATI
RAGE(TM) LT Pro graphics accelerator for the new Armada M300 series.

Following a fast growing number of design wins with other leading
notebook computer manufacturers, this is the first design win for the
ATI RAGE Mobility with the Compaq Armada line of notebook PCs. Able to
deliver industry-leading 2D, 3D, and video performance, with no weight
penalty and very low power consumption, the ATI RAGE Mobility family of
mobile graphics is very quickly becoming the notebook OEM graphics
accelerator of choice.

ATI RAGE Mobility-P is used in the ultimate, high-performance,
enterprise Armada E700 with an Intel(R) Pentium II(R) 400MHz processor,
and is matched in the Armada M700 with the Intel Pentium II processor
at 400MHz or 366 MHz.

''Compaq's selection of the ATI RAGE Mobility for its new series of
leading-edge Armada M700 and Armada E700 enterprise environment
notebook PCs is further proof that corporate users today are demanding
all the performance and features of a desktop PC system when travelling
for extended periods on the road,'' said Bill Henry, director of mobile
component marketing, ATI Technologies Inc. ''ATI's RAGE Mobility sets
the industry standard in notebook PC graphics and multimedia, offering
the industry's best balance of performance and great mobile
characteristics.''

The RAGE Mobility family: ATI the first to bring true desktop features

and performance to the notebook platform ATI RAGE Mobility graphics
accelerators are designed to deliver industry-leading 3D, 2D and
multimedia performance, and the most optimal balance of power and
performance functionality currently available in a mobile graphics
accelerator, packaged in a highly integrated, space-saving design.

RAGE Mobility accelerators feature a unique ''single component graphics
sub-system solution'' that replaces the need for over six individual
chipsto provide memory and graphics functions. The single sub-system
design results in important component cost savings, and low power
consumption, twinned with long battery life for notebook computer
systems.

ATI's RAGE LT PRO provides a long list of industry firsts for mobile

accelerators Both the Rage LT Pro and the Rage Mobility mobile graphics
accelerators support a large desktop feature that allows data to be
displayed on two screens for extra large spreadsheets, or documents.
The 8MB of graphics memory on the Armada E700 and Armada M700 supports
both the high resolution 14.1inch LCD display plus an external monitor
up to 1600x1200 resolution. With VGA and TV outputs the Armada systems
are equipped to present in any boardroom or corporate setting.
