LA I agree with you. NY I would discuss, not necessarily disagree about, but in general I think it's a good city to raise a family in; schools are better than many, crime is down, lots of parks and recreational activities, very diverse range of neighborhoods to explore, CCNY for education, plus many museums, historical sites, etc. I don't know Boston at all. London I don't know well personally, have only been there four times and not recently, but I have lots of family there and they think it is a good city generally. Of course every city has pockets of problems, but London would not wind up at or even near the bottom of a list of best cities to raise your children in, as D.C. did. I don't know what you consider "major" cities. Seattle? Portland, Me? Portland, Ore? Salt Lake City? I think there are a number of major cities which are generally family and child friendly on top of having all the other things -- museums, restaurants, recreational activities, etc. I think you're too cynical.
