Hi Steven -- won't dispute that White thought what you reported. Even if Kennedy might have wanted to bail, I think he was in far too deeply already. Not sure he really learned the important lessons from BOP and think he was more lucky than good re. Cuban missiles.

Kennedy was a risk taker (John-John, it turns out, was his father's son). He may have done a lot differently from LBJ, but I think he would have stayed. Most likely scenario, IMO -- he would have been ruthless in the north and Cambodia. It might have worked. I strongly doubt it, though. At best, he would have gotten us where Nixon did, only a lot sooner.
