Christopher! That's silly. And provocative.
No one wants children to suffer. But the bottomless pit of our welfare system is not achieving the goal--- in DC, or anywhere. I was a social service worker in a small town and the programs were no more effective there than in large areas. They are designed to aid, but not correct. Over the years I came to believe that we, as the government, can NOT guarantee a child a safe, and healthy, and supportive environment. Not unless we are prepared to completely ignore parental rights and remove children from situations that are questionable. Do you remember the reaction to Newt's proposition that children be placed in orphanages? I understood what he was saying. THere were times I would have liked to do nothing more than run roughshod over ignorant or abusive parents, but it doesn't work like that. ANd since we can't do that, we must do the best we can within the programs we have. You are asking for perfection-- a goal not to be ridiculed, but one which is just not (yet) attainable.

I would bet that you and Coby have the same dreams for every child. Don't allow such sniping to divide you like that!
