It'll be interesting to see how Compaq allocates the job cuts it just announced (although it will probably be hard to get information). Will their triage try to save the low end? The Intel architecture servers? DEC Alphas? The DEC service organization? What was once Tandem? They've got lots of choices to make; how they exercise them may give a clue to the future of computing as they see it. JMHO.
