No it wasn't. It was primarily because of the Bay of Pigs fiasco. I have it on extremely good authority that it was a mob hit. Primarily ordered by the Chicago mob, although New York was heavily into it also. The mob felt Kennedy betrayed them (and to an extent he did) and they wanted to take him out.

Vietnam didn't play into it at all.
