James, I basically agree with your comments and I don't know how much Amati patents add to their market value. But I can tell you that not all patents are the same. Someone in my family is the founder of a privately held biotech company. At a recent shareholder meeting there were as many lawyers in the room as there were scientists & investors. Most of them patent lawyers & FDA types. Patents play a MAJOR role in certain industries. I know for a fact this is very true in biotech and if Wanye is correct it's equally true in telecom...
