There are thousands, probably millions, of different "systems", each with tremendous redundancy, not one overall system. Take water and sewage treatment, which seems to be a big focus for you.
There are 171,000 different water supply systems in the U.S., each with varying degrees of Y2K readiness. A large percentage of them are gravity fed, with mechanical, not embedded system controls, and the ability to conduct treatment manually, if necessary. The water supply and treatment industry is taking this issue extremely seriously and I would bet you right now that there will not be a single long-term outage of water in the U.S. because of Y2K. And even if there were, it would not affect anyone but those who are on that particular system, because there is no overall system for water supply, there are 171,000 different systems in the U.S.
Half the people in the U.S. do not even connect to a wastewater sewage treatment facility. They are on septic tanks and have absolutely nothing to worry about for Y2K impact on sewage treatment. |
