Tell me why anyone in Seattle should worry about water supply in January. This from the Seattle Public Utilities web site. They also have outside auditing of their readiness:

"When you turn on your tap, you will receive the high-quality water you expect. The water supply system is fundamentally low-tech, since it is primarily gravity-fed; there is lower water usage during the winter season and a corresponding higher seasonal supply. However, to eliminate any Y2K impact on water distribution and treatment, SPU has reviewed every computer system for date functionality and is fixing or replacing any related system that has a possible Y2K problem, including implementing a new laboratory information management system. All embedded systems—including those that monitor water treatment equipment—have also been examined. (Pumps and valves can be monitored and operated manually, if necessary.) And, to add an extra layer of assurance, SPU is rescheduling reservoir maintenance, filling reservoirs before Jan. 1, 2000 and reviewing "on-call" staffing levels."
