NEON Awarded Third Patent
Only EAI Provider with Patents on Messaging, Transformation, Content-Based Routing
DENVER, July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- New Era of Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: NEON - news) announced today it has been awarded a patent for its messaging technology. U.S. patent number 5,916,307 now protects NEON's unique messaging technology, one of the key elements of its Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) product suite. This is the third broad-reaching patent for critical EAI technologies that NEON has obtained in the past 4 months.
''We are #1 in EAI largely because of the strength of our technology,'' said Harold Piskiel, executive vice president and chief technology officer for NEON. ''Our third patent clearly demonstrates our growing technology leadership position while also providing another strong competitive barrier''.
EAI products must be able to move large amounts of information over a network quickly, efficiently and reliably. The patented NEON technology uses a relational database as the implementation vehicle for a message queuing system. It employs a ''balanced queue'' design that moves large amounts of information between systems with guaranteed transactional integrity, high performance and low overhead.
NEON's other two patents are for its high performance rules engine and dynamic transformation technologies. NEON's patented rules technology allows its products to determine which applications need what information at high speeds, an essential task for an EAI product. It can also be used to validate and enrich information as it moves from application to application. Its patented dynamic transformation capability allows NEON products to transform information from one format to another, an important EAI capability required whenever systems use different data representations.
The U.S. Patent office issued the messaging patent to NEON in June 1999 on behalf of Piskiel and his co-inventors. The patent covers the algorithms, database design, and processing methods invented by the team. NEON was awarded U.S. patent number 5,893,911 for rules in May 1999, while it obtained U.S. patent number 5,842,205 on dynamic transformation when it acquired VIE Systems in April, 1999.
