It is more complicated that that. A higher bid on eBay only goes a small amount above the second highest bid. For example, let's say I bid $100 and you bid $200 on the same item. Your high bid will only show as $102.50, unless someone comes in and place a higher bid than that. In addition, when a seller sets a reserve price, they don't have to sell unless the bidding reaches that reserve price.
