..... in terms of today's bottom line, Java benefits sales of servers and storage systems, but indirectly, and much more importantly, Java has raised the level and reputation of the name of the corporation, Sun Microsystems, in board rooms and with all the Chief Information Officers around the world.
In my opinion, most posters on SI have a technical vent - software developers, systems programmers, tool developers, etc. And as such seem to focus on the roots of the grass, and not the lawn. Technical contributions are vital in technology companies, but technical marketing and sales also add tremendous value.
To stock holders of Sun Microsystems, when the Wall Street Journal features Java in such a positive light, as they did today, we are all richer, even if you can not see it in your brokerage account today.
Please understand that almost every important business executive in the world will have seen this wonderful and positive article about Java and Sun Microsystems before the sun rises on Wall Street tomorrow morning.
That does not mean it will jack the stock price immediately, but it raises Sun Microsystems to a higher high in the executive business community in terms of Sun's reputation ..... how smart those folks are; how influential they must be; boy, I'd like to have them on my team, etc.
