I spent a summer in Osaka while in college, and I can tell you that the japanese view americans as gun toting cowboys, literally. Just like we view the canadians as living under 2 feet of snow year round.

GST mentioned Japanese outflow from the US equity markets were starting to pick up steam, and I think this incident today (which will surely get coverage worldwide) could very well convince the japanese and other foreign dollars to decide to get the hell out of the US equity markets- which they already view as a bubble about to collapse. (the vice chairman of the japanese "fed" recently resigned early and said it was because he didnt want to deal with the fallout when the US stock market collapsed within the next 12 months) You can bet that if they see on the news that our markets declined heavily today, and that it's getting so bad that people are now beginning to go on shooting rampages, then those foreign investors are going to get out of Dodge pretty quickly.

I'd give a 50/50 chance that tomorrow will be the biggest down day in the history of our markets. I imagine a lot of daytraders will decide to stay home, perhaps permenently. How will the market react without all those momo players?

And if everyone is afraid to go to daytrading centers because they're afraid some maniac will go postal if the market dips, then they'll probably be online with e-brokerages instead.. Which means system clogs, which will probably result in further panic.

Not exactly the way I hoped to profit from my puts..
